PCC Minutes 14/05/2014

St JOHN THE BAPTIST, HARRINGWORTH

A meeting of the P.C.C. was held on Wednesday 14th May 2014
at 7.30pm.

The Revd Jane Baxter was in the Chair and present were: all PCC members.

The meeting began with prayers.

The Minutes of the last ordinary meeting were agreed and signed.

Matters arising: The lightning conductor has been checked.

Revd Baxter has sent off the Parish Profile. She has not heard more about having a curate.

The large chalice could be used at Christmas.

The piano is being removed in stages.

The congregation will be invited to exchange The Peace at the next benefice service in Harringworth.

Correspondence: A certificate was sent from the Diocese with thanks for paying Harringworth’s portion of the Parish Share. This was 100% of the amount requested. There has been no collection for Christian Aid for three years.

Finance: Mr Gray passed round copies of the figures and gave explanations. He said they were not comparable being only halfway through the year. Most items were largely on target. He was seeking clarification on the new online method of claiming tax relief on gifted monies

The Lenten lunch raised £304 for S.S.F.A.

Interior: The Spring Clean had gone well, thanks to Mrs Cooper and her team.

Mr Benney will put more oil on the Priest’s door in the chancel.

  • Col. Hendy described the status of the Audio project so far:
  • Toilet & Kitchen: Mr Benney gave the latest status: The DAC has approved the plans and specifications given by the architect. The notice from the DAC will arrive soon and needs to be displayed for the 28 day period.

Mr Gray identified the problem that work could not start until all the money was raised which could take considerably longer. Revd Baxter said the lifespan of a Faculty could be extended.

Exterior & Churchyard: The churchyard cleanup had gone well, thanks to Mr Saunders and all who helped.

Revd Baxter’s notices: There will be a baptism with a hundred guests this coming Sunday. Jane Baxter will conduct Evensong instead of Jill Cannings.

Past & Future events: Easter services were well-attended and also Mothering Sunday. Flowers lovely.

The lecture by Revd Post about Canon Andrew White, vicar of Baghdad was well attended. Thanks were expressed to Mr & Mrs Gasson for their hospitality and Mrs Gray and others who helped with refreshments.

The U3A tea and tour of the church went well with 20 visitors. Thanks to Revd Baxter, Mrs Cooper and all who helped.

St John the Baptist will be remembered on the Sunday before 24th June.

Harvest Festival: 5th October. Revd Baxter said there could be a morning service followed by lunch. The P.C.C were happy for the lunch to be run by the Appeals Committee thereby involving more of the community, on a one-off basis for now. The P.C.C is very happy to help.

The 31st August will be a 5th Sunday and so a Benefice service in Harringworth.

Health & Safety: The aisle carpet needs re-fitting and the brass rod is broken.

Any Other Business: The “bird gates” may need replacing. Revd Baxter said this could be funded from a legacy.

The Date of the next meeting: Wednesday 3rd September 2014 7.30pm at Church Cottage.
