Since originating in 2007, the Harringworth Croquet Tournament has been held every year during August; and despite the weather occasionally trying to dampen things, it has always been fully subscribed and successfully concluded.
With typically 36 participants across the age range of 12 to 90, plus similar quantities of family and friends to give support, it has proven to be a popular afternoon for watching, participating, taking refreshments and socialising.
The hosting of all three croquet lawns on at a single venue has proven particularly popular in the last couple of years as it allows old and young alike, an uninterrupted afternoon to watch, play (or shelter!) without the need to migrate between venues.
For 2014, we are therefore looking forward once again to the Croquet being hosted on Sunday 3 August, with an early afternoon commencement in the gardens of The Elms, Gretton Road.
The competition is open to all villagers, their families and friends and prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-up.
Registration will take place at 1.30pm with play starting at 2.00pm and finishing at around 5.00pm. Tea and cakes will be served during the afternoon – children are welcome.
Numbers are crucial as we need 12 players per lawn and there are three lawns. Please let us know by Sunday 27 July whether you would like to take part – you should have received a leaflet and entry form through the post. Complete and return the entry slip (along with the £5.00 per competitor entry fee – this includes refreshments). Spectators are welcome to watch the event, all we ask is £2.00 for tea and cake.
We would be grateful for donations of cakes for the afternoon.
