By now many of you might have noticed the new viaduct information boards, one in Rutland on the way to Morcott, near the nature reserve, and the other in Northamptonshire by the Amco Rail depot, facing down Gretton Road.
For many years, there has been a need for the visitors to the area to have some information about the wonderful structure spanning the valley and two Counties.
When the walk across the Viaduct proposed by Amco Rail was cancelled due to Health and Safety concerns by Network Rail, Amco Rail were understandably disappointed as they had hoped to host a community initiative during the extensive maintenance work carried out on the viaduct.
At that time I approached Shaun Trickett, the Amco Rail Project Manger to ask if his Company would fund the printing and installation of two public information boards about the viaduct. Shaun was delighted to be able to invest in such a community project.
With the promise of funding in place I compiled the original layout of the notice board from some of the archive material which I held. With the help of Richard Nixon of Harcourt Communications, our resident graphic designer, my vision was turned into artwork that the printers could manufacture. The graphics and technical contents of the boards were then checked and approved by Network Rail and Amco Rail.
I think you will agree Richard gave the boards a great industrial, modern feel together with the inclusion of excellent colour photographs and the black and white historic images we have created a very interesting information panel.
I would particularly like to thank Richard for his excellent interpretation of the original idea, and Shaun Trickett of Amco Rail for turning that idea into what you see today.
